๐Ÿฅ‡ Olympics Obsessed

"The world must come together as one."

We are the World by USA for Africa

Hello Reader,

The Olympics are on through August 11! This is an incredible time to enrich your child's understanding of the world.

3 ways to use the Olympics as an educational opportunity:

๐ŸŒŽ Geography: As you watch, locate countries on the map. Ask your child to observe what continent it's on, bordering countries, its capital, and landmarks like seas or mountain ranges.

๐ŸŒ Flags: When each player's name is shown on tv, they will have their flag next to it. This is a great time to discuss flags because your child will have a memory to associate it with. I recommend having a placemat like this handy with a world map on one side and flags on the other.

๐ŸŒ Culture + Language: Research how to say hello or count to five in different languages. If you watch a sport that isn't popular, research what countries it is popular in. Some sports like handball and rugby have huge followings outside of the United States.

What's New?

๐Ÿ“š Thank you!: My last two videos had the strongest premieres ever on my channel. Thank you for watching and sharing! You can watch books banned in the 23-24 school year pt 1 here and pt 2 here.โ€‹

Things I Love

๐Ÿซข jaw dropping: I just finished reading Verity by Colleen Hoover with my book club and goodness gracious, I could not put it down! This book is not for the faint of heart, but if you need a good thriller I highly recommend.

๐Ÿงฆ great deal: I snagged my husband new Bombas socks on deep discount at the Nordstrom sale. If you've been wanting to try them, the price is right! Sale ends Sunday.

๐Ÿงด No nonsense: If you're looking for a classic moisturizer, the Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizer has been a favorite for decades (seriously, my great aunt used it into her 90s!). The jumbo size is marked down to $30! Perfect is you have a tween interested in skincare or prefer a no nonsense classic.

Have a wonderful week ๐Ÿ’•

"The things I was taught only took me so far, had to figure the rest out for myself" Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves Hi Reader! I was inspired by a recent article by Gene Fashaw on EdSurge on using a growth mindset to help students with math. I connected with it because as a child I deeply believed I was naturally bad at math. It wasn't until I went to college to study education that I realized some misconceptions in elementary school prevented me from excelling in math. I don't want the next...

It's the only time you'll see the school sparkling clean, the time your child will guide you around their space, and a new beginning for everyone. As a teacher it was just as strange of a day! Every year I was in leggings and a t-shirt up til the last minute trying to get my classroom perfect. More...
