3 Questions to Ask BEFORE the School Year Ends

Hello Reader,

It's almost summer time...

The school year is coming to a close. Before summer starts, reach out one more time with these questions:

🤔 1. Are there any areas you think my child may struggle in next year? I want to get ahead of it this summer.

Treat their answer like a prescription- for example, families moving from 3rd to 4th grade may want to double down on multiplication / division facts so they can solve more complicated problems next school year.

✖️ 2. What skills should my child review to stay sharp?

A subject often missed? Writing. Encourage your child to keep a summer journal or write stories, a huge part of writing is building endurance. Once you stop writing it’s harder to start again.

🍎 Charlotte, NC Parents- come learn about local schools and how to find the best fit for your child. The Kindergarten School Talk Workshop is next week!

🎉 3. What was the biggest area of growth for my child this year? (Academic or Social Emotionally)

Yes- dig for the compliment. Your child worked so hard this year, so everyone should get a chance to celebrate their growth!

Once you have the answers, watch the Grade Level Series to understand what next school year will be like.

You don’t need to dedicate a ton of time to schoolwork, it’s incredible what 10-20 minutes of daily review can do to prevent summer learning loss. Add in 20 minutes of daily reading and your child will be able to preserve their learning this summer.

💡 Pro Tip: Use a summer workbook for review. I love the Summer Bridge and Evan-Moor workbooks.

What's New?

✈️ Wheels Up: This week I’ll be in Indianapolis at the Mic Drop Live Conference. This conference is for women that public speak. I’m going in a day early to have dinner with my grandmother :)

😮‍💨 A little anxious: As a solo business owner it makes me nervous to leave a week before my next workshop. It makes it so much harder to market tickets. If you’ve been thinking about going to the May 18 workshop- make my day and buy your ticket now. 🙏

Things I Love

✍️ Summer Journaling: Writing is the most magical subject in school. It’s more than grammar, it’s self expression. Give your child a journal and their world will open up. For kids that like some structure I like the question a day journal or the creative Wreck this Journal

🧴 Great and the Environment & My Wallet: My fav summer moisturizer came out with a refillable system. Instead of buying the whole container again, you can now get refillable pods. It saves a ton of plastic and is much cheaper to refill! The original container is about $20 and the refill pods are only $12!

We are on the final stretch to summer! Hope life is good for you 🩷
