Huge Mistakes

"I'm rested and I'm ready to begin"

February Seven by The Avett Brothers

Hi Reader,

*Over the next 2 weeks I'll be sending a few extra emails out to promote the Preparing for Kindergarten course. If you'd like to opt out of these bonus emails, but still stay subscribed to this weekly newsletter, you can click here.โ€‹

Many parents are celebrating the beginning of summer- but for parents of rising kindergartners, it may feel very different...like a countdown has begun.

Do they need to know how to read? Is there a test on the first day? Is it bad your child didn't go to preschool? What does "being kindergarten ready" even mean??

Wouldn't it be nice to ask a teacher about this?

Preparing your Child for Kindergarten was created for parents and caregivers of children starting kindergarten within the next three years.

Here's what you can expect:

  • 5 science based sessions to prepare your child for school
  • Activities you can use immediately with your child
  • Social emotional skills children need before kindergarten
  • Academic skills that will benefit them for their whole school career
  • Plenty of Q&A with a certified kindergarten teacher that's seen it all
  • Class replays if you can't attend live

The best part? It's only $100! That's $20 a session!

Make sure to "checkout as a guest" for easy enrollment. Class starts June 12- I can't wait to see you there!

What's New?

๐Ÿ˜„ Rested and ready: Mike and I had a nice, long Memorial Day weekend at home. I played pickleball for the first time (so fun!) and harvested my first tomatoes from the garden. It's going to be a caprese salad summer ๐Ÿ˜‹ What did you do?

๐Ÿ–๏ธ ways to help: Would you like to support me, but aren't a candidate for the Preparing for Kindergarten course? Word of mouth is the best compliment! Tell a friend about the corse or post it in a parenting facebook group.

Things I Love

๐Ÿงด Skincare: In the summer, I swap out my skin care for light weight gel products. This keeps my skin moisturized and prevents me from feeling like I'm melting in the humidity. I use this eye gel and this hydroboost lotion. Best part is they are pretty inexpensive compared to my winter creams!

๐Ÿ’ฟ Nostalgia: I just finished One in a Millennial by Kate Kennedy. Part memoir and part social commentary, it dives into the environment many millennial girls were raised in. It felt like a walk down memory lane and also connected a lot of dots about why I think and act the way I do. Such a great book!

๐Ÿ“š Kids Chapter Book Series: If your kiddo loves Dragon Masters, then the might love the Zoey & Sassafras series. Part mystery and part fantasy, Zoey and her cat Sassafras run experiments, research, and investigate to save dragons, unicorns, gnomes, and more. There are 7 books in the series.

Have a great week friends! If you are on the fence about enrolling in the course, please respond to this email to ask all your questions.

Take care,

"I have to celebrate you, baby I have to praise you like I should" Praise You by Fatboy Slim (Mike and I entered our wedding reception to this song ๐Ÿ˜„) Hi Reader! During my livestream yesterday, I got this question: My child (age 5, kindergarten) wants constant affirmation for the smallest things. How much is too much and how can I show him he needs to do hard work to get praise? Rephrase the praise: Praise is good, but to a child looking for affirmation it can be like an addiction. Rephrase...

"The things I was taught only took me so far, had to figure the rest out for myself" Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves Hi Reader! I was inspired by a recent article by Gene Fashaw on EdSurge on using a growth mindset to help students with math. I connected with it because as a child I deeply believed I was naturally bad at math. It wasn't until I went to college to study education that I realized some misconceptions in elementary school prevented me from excelling in math. I don't want the next...
