Is Time Management a Struggle?

Hello Reader,

Take a second and think about how you organize your day.

Some people are methodical spending time every day maintaining their list. Others do a once weekly (or monthly) reset and let everything go in between.

The hardest part of time management is just how much there is to do!

Work, home, school, meals, fitness plans, clothing, and then add how your schedule coordinates with the schedules of everyone living in your home as well.

No wonder it's so dang hard to teach organization and time management to kids!

When it comes to teaching kids time management, it's all about modeling. They are watching how you manage your time, decide when to prepare your things, and how long "one minute" really is.

Try this to teach time management:

  • Visuals: Have you ever had someone ask you to do something, then you think I'll do it in a minute, and then never do it? This is why to do lists are saving marriages everywhere! 😜 Asking your child to remember everything in their head is a recipe for low productivity. Get in the habit of keeping a handwritten planner. This planner with to-do lists is a great option for kids.
  • Timers: Children do not understand how time works. They don't understand it at age 5, and many still don't understand at age 10. They need to be taught. Use visual timers to help them develop a sense of time and race the clock. I love this visual timer/planner for thinking about a full day. This one is great for checklists. And these 1, 3, 5 minute sand timers are my favorite to get kids to hustle.
  • Predictions: As an adult I still feel this struggle. I constantly over/ under estimate how long work tasks take to complete. This July I'm challenging myself to predict how long I think a task will take, and afterward write how long actually it took. Try this with your child next time they need to put laundry away or do homework.

How do you teach your kiddo time management?

What's New?

🎟️ Last Chance!: I'm raising the prices of my check in calls. I spend a lot of time researching and preparing for calls, and the current price doesn't reflect that. In August the prices of calls will be raised from $70 to $99. Calls will also be extended from 30 minutes to 45.

If you've been thinking about booking a call, this is the time! You can buy a call to schedule now, or save for later. Book Here, or respond to this email to see how I can help you. Thank you for being a part of Primary Focus ❤️

🦅 Dept of Ed News: Keep an eye on education news this week! Yesterday the Supreme Court allowed for the Dept. of Ed to lay off 1,400 employees . This could be catastrophic for our education system. The federal government has also frozen $6 billion in education grants. This could lead to layoffs at your school district, delays in programming, and an upheaval of local programming.

👐 You're Not Welcome: And in more news, Idaho has banned teachers from hanging signs that say "everyone is welcome" because it displays a teacher's personal opinion...🤦🏻‍♀️

Things I Love

⭐️ Best Book All Year: I stayed up all night finishing Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Such a good book! It's about the NASA space program in the 80s and some of the first women in space but also has a beautiful love story. It was a page turner and tear jerker! I haven't read a book this fast in a long time. Link to IndieBound / Link to Amazon
