"You say it best, when you say nothing at all"

When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating

How's it going Reader?

Tis the season of open houses! Open House is such a strange night for everyone. It's the only time you'll see the school sparkling clean, the time your child will guide you around their space, and a new beginning for everyone.

As a teacher it was just as strange of a day! Every year I was in leggings and a t-shirt up til the last minute trying to get my classroom perfect. More than once took a sink shower before changing into business casual. Nothing humbles you more than crouching over a tiny kindergarten sink to wash off at work!

If you open a closed door at an open house you're likely to see a teacher standing on a chair holding a hot glue gun plugged into 3 extension cords. Just shut the door and pretend you never saw it lol!

So I have to know: what do you think about open house? Respond to this email to share :)

Get the Most Out of Open House:

  • Ask questions, but don't share anything: When I taught, I usually stood in the corner the first parent found me in and stayed there the whole night as a line formed. I could answer anything you wanted to now, but always forgot important information people shared with me. It's chaotic in there, so follow up with an email.
  • Socialize: Did you finally bump into that kid your child says is their best friend?? Meet their family and grab a phone number! Odds are you won't see them again for months, if at all.
  • Bring in School Supplies: You should ask if it's ok ahead of time, but many families bring in supplies at open house. Make sure all the bags are labeled and tied shut so when the dust clears the teacher knows who it belongs too.

What's New?

πŸ“š On the news: I was so excited to appear on QC Life for the third time discussing how to form a. great relationship with your child's teacher. Check out the segment here!

⏱️ Time Savers: Check out The Life Management System Podcast! I loved this episode on getting the kids up and out to school quickly. I'm linking to youtube, but you can find it on apple and spotify.

Things I Love

🀩 fabulous: My secret it that I refuse spend tons of money on mascara. My old standby is slowly getting discontinued, so I switched to this one. For $9.99 I've never gotten so many compliments on my eyelashes! Sounds like I should have switched ages ago.

πŸ“š cozy rugs: Most rugs are 40% off right now at Target. I'd be nowhere without my fatigue mat (seriously get one for the kitchen and your bathroom floor), sassy pumpkin welcome mat, and this washable children's area rug comes in pink and blue for under $100.

πŸ‘Ÿ Native Kids Shoes: These Native kids shoes are 40% off right now on amazon (yes they are real!). Several colors are marked way down including a gorgeous green. I hope you can find your kiddo's size!

Take care,
