3 things i'd share right away

"I was working in the lab late one night..."

Hello hello Reader,

It's parent teacher conference season. This may be the longest one on one time you get with your child's teacher this year- so make the most of it!

3 Ways to Have a Productive Conference

1๏ธโƒฃ Ask: What's the biggest challenge for students in this grade / subject?

The problem with conferences is they tend to take place during a very "vanilla" time of year. The teacher may say your child is doing great... but that could change in January when content gets more difficult. Ask this question to anticipate the hard part. Use the Parent Teacher Conf. Checklist to guide your questions.

2๏ธโƒฃ Share: A tough moment from last year

Pretending your child is perfect won't help anyone. Share a challenge from the year before (behavior or academic).

This will help your child's teacher anticipate their needs and show that you're working on a team with their teacher.

3๏ธโƒฃ Follow Up

After the conference, take advice from their teacher right away. Did they suggest memorizing math facts? Practice a few days in a row. Then send their teacher a note sharing how it's going. ]

This helps in 2 parts: it will benefit your child and it will show the teacher you value their expertise.

What's New?

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธYou Should Vote: Election day is in one week! Here's my process for voting:

1. Go to your county's board of elections website

2. Look up your voter registration and polling site

3. Look up your sample ballot. Take a screen shot

4. Research candidates- use "mark up" on your phone to fill out your selections

5. Make a plan to vote and then treat yourself afterward!

๐Ÿง„ Last Chance Gardening: Last weekend I worked in the garden to swap out the last of my sad summer plants with the winter ones. I planted garlic for the first time- it takes 8 months, so I'll let you know how it goes when the school year ends!

๐Ÿ“š Story Time: I'll be hosting story time at Betty's next Friday November 6 from 9:30 - 10am.

The Joy: Anytime I got to swim, I had some really really good laughs this year, traveling far and wide to see my friends & family, sweet moments with my husband, and I got to meet so many of you this year! The Pain: I tore my calf on...
