Hey Reader!

This weekend is my birthday! I'm so honored to turn 36 this weekend. I experienced a lot of joy, pain, and life lessons at age 35. I'm ready to take that wisdom on to my next age.

The Joy: Anytime I got to swim, I had some really really good laughs this year, traveling far and wide to see my friends & family, sweet moments with my husband, and I got to meet so many of you this year!

The Pain: I tore my calf on Feb 28. OUCH. I spent March - August healing. Thankfully it's recovered and now I'm diligently working on regaining the strength I lost. 0/10 would not recommend

The Lesson: I work too much. I'm learning how to slow down, pick reasonable goals, and call BS on hustle culture.

Ok, what does this have to do with kids?

See how I candidly told you my age up there?

When did we stop doing that?

And more importantly- when did we stop celebrating birthdays / milestones?

I know kids aren't the best conversationalists. And they don't stop having needs on our birthdays (can the diaper changing pause for 1 day??).

But even as they talk at you instead of talk with you. They are quietly soaking up what it's like to be a grown up from the adults around them.

There's an old piece of teacher advice- if you want kids that read, then you should read too.

That applies in this case too-

If you want kids to feel positive about getting older - then you need to model that too

I know we all get the Sunday Scaries before a big birthday (I thought I turned 26 only a few weeks ago 😳). And grief can be tied up in getting older.

But there's a new restaurant that opened, there's a day that needs to be taken off work, and that cake's not gonna eat itself!

So celebrate your birthday how you want- and know it's an investment in the future 😉

🕵️‍♀️ Page Turner!: I have been whizzing through this series! If you're looking for a suspenseful page turner that isn't gross / gory then Alias Emma is for you. This series follow Spy Emma Makepeace as she goes undercover. I just finished the second book and it was even better than the first!

👗 The Best Dress: I'm 99% sure I'm wearing this to celebrate my birthday. This dress creates a great silhouette, and it made of stretchy forgiving fabric. It's gonna be hot (85!) so I need something that's pretty and lightweight.

🌭 LOL Halloween: My mom and I are celebrating Halloween together this year. She thinks we should be witches, but I'm trying to convince her we should get this costume 😂 What do you think??
